Hi, I’m Tomáš Bujňák, an ambitious tech enthusiast with a strong passion for technology and data analytics. I’ve always been drawn to the way tech can solve real-world problems, and over the years, I’ve cultivated a blend of skills in leadership, communication, and adaptability. I thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments, where strategic thinking and a proactive mindset drive success.
One of the most transformative experiences of my career so far was being part of the Student Trainee Center at Microsoft, a program that, unfortunately, is no longer running. It was such a memorable and valuable experience, and I often find myself reflecting on how much it shaped my skills and perspective. I had the chance to work with incredible technology and, more importantly, meet some truly amazing people who inspired and challenged me to grow.
During my time in the program, I immersed myself in a wide array of Microsoft tools, from PowerPoint and Excel to Power BI and Azure. I even found a way to combine my passion for motorsport with Microsoft technology, which made the experience even more special. As a motorsport enthusiast, working on projects like developing real-time data dashboards for motorsport safety using IoT and Power BI was a dream come true. It allowed me to apply cutting-edge tech to a field I deeply care about.
Each trimester in the program pushed me to think critically and creatively, whether I was working on historical data simulations or presenting innovative IoT solutions. One of my proudest moments was successfully presenting my final project on motorsport safety to program leaders, securing their approval and earning my certificate.Beyond the technical skills, the relationships I built were equally impactful. Collaborating with peers and mentors in such a dynamic environment was invaluable. Sadly, this program no longer exists, and I genuinely believe it was a loss for future students, as it was a crucial stepping stone in my journey.
Fortunately, a similar program is still thriving in Czechia, which, as of now, is the only place in the world where such a program continues to run. I was fortunate enough to be invited there for a weekend teambuilding event, and it was an unforgettable experience. The energy, the creativity, and the sense of community were palpable. It reminded me of everything I loved about the original program, and I’m incredibly grateful I had the opportunity to be part of it, even if just for a weekend.
Karate has been a huge part of my life, and I’ve experienced the sport from nearly every position possible. Whether as a recreational participant, an active competitor, a coach, a mentor, or even a referee, I’ve gained a well-rounded perspective on the sport. I’ve also taken on roles as an organizer, manager, and team leader, helping coordinate events, competitions, and training camps. This diversity of experience has not only deepened my understanding of karate but also shaped my approach to leadership and teamwork.
Along the way, I’ve had the chance to meet some incredible people who have inspired and pushed me to grow. A particularly memorable moment was practicing and sparring with Lucia Kokočák during the time she became a two-time European Champion. Another proud experience was helping to train Manuel Laci, a talented young athlete from a disadvantaged background. During the 2022/23 season, I worked closely with him as he progressed to the national team and represented the Slovak Republic at the WKF Cadet, Junior, and U21 World Championships in Konya in 2022. Seeing him achieve so much despite the challenges he faced made the experience even more meaningful for me.
November 2024, I achieved a black belt in karate. It’s been a long road filled with dedication and learning, and I’m sure karate had a massive impact on my life.
On a completely different note, I’ve also been deeply involved with the Slovak Karate Union. Serving as a referee, I’ve had to make quick decisions under intense pressure and communicate across languages with athletes, coaches, and doctors. But the real twist came when I took on the role of Product Manager for a custom app requested by the association president.
Now, this wasn’t smooth sailing. Partway through development, there was a sudden change in competition rules, which almost rendered the app useless. For a moment, we thought the project was at a standstill. But we didn’t give up. We pivoted and made the app functional for the year 2023. It ended up being used by the national team coaches. Soon after we gave the final version of the app to the national team on the European Championship – by a margin of just 0.1 points in the finals, Michaela Čukanová won the U21 title. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not! :D
Through every project and challenge, I’ve embraced the learning curve and found ways to innovate and problem-solve. Whether it’s developing new tools, collaborating on strategic initiatives, or mentoring others, I’m always excited for what’s next. Technology is constantly evolving, and so am I – always eager to learn and take on new opportunities that push me to grow, both personally and professionally.
And, there’s something else on the horizon. I’ve been working on a project I call the TB Project. While I can’t reveal much just yet, it’s something that’s been quietly in development, and it’s going to change the game in ways I’ve been planning for a long time. Stay tuned… you won’t want to miss this :)
